You have probably given your dog some leftover food.
This small gesture can lead to health risks, as there are foods that our dogs cannot tolerate and are harmful.
Leftover food we give our dogs
We tend to give all kinds of leftover food to our cane corso dogs such as potatoes, pasta such as macaroni, all kinds of sausages, stewed dishes, bread, cooked bones…
By giving leftover food to our Italian Mastiff, it is likely that later on they will not feel very well, causing stomach aches or gastroenteritis.
Is it bad to feed leftovers to your dog?
The risks of feeding leftover food to your dog can be as follows:
Pancreatitis: this is an inflammation of the pancreas caused by feeding your dog too much fat. These are more common in small breeds of dog.
Digestion problems: there are foods that your cane corso is not used to eating, which is why they are difficult to digest and he is likely to vomit, have flatulence or diarrhoea.
Intolerance to cereals: Dogs are usually given leftover spaghetti, macaroni and rice and on many occasions their stomach does not process these foods well, again causing stomach problems.
Obesity or excessive weight: Dogs that are regularly fed with leftover food are often overweight due to the intake of excess calories with the risks that this entails.
Good food leftovers that we can give to a dog
There are foods that we can give to our dogs if we have leftovers from lunch or dinner.
Natural yoghurt as it helps to regulate their intestinal transit.
Steamed, grilled or baked fish, preferably small fish where the bones do not cause any problems.
Steamed or grilled red and white meat without additives.
Vegetables, preferably cooked.
Fruits of all kinds.
You have to remember that our advice for the diet of dogs and especially of our cane corso breed is the natural diet or Barf diet, without any type of processed feed.
