I know how to make the heat and with it the parties, festivities …. And as in every festivity, fireworks, a great fear of most dogs, cannot be missing.

Dogs have an incredible hearing, they can hear sound from a distance of 225 to 230 meters, that’s why for them fireworks are so annoying and upset them so much. Also, no matter how intelligent dogs are, they do not know how to distinguish loud noises if they are dangerous or not, that is why when they hear a loud noise they always react as if they were in danger.
That is why we are going to give you some tips to calm your dog when there are fireworks.

Tips to calm your dog

Anti-anxiety bandage or Tellington ttouch: For this technique, if it is the first time you use it, you have to do it a few days before, even a week for your dog to get used to it. This technique consists of taking a bandage and wrapping it around your dog’s body in a certain way:

1. place the bandage over his chest
2. cross over the neck
3. Cross over his belly
4. go back up
5. Tie a knot away from your spine.

This technique exerts pressure on specific areas which reduces his stress level.

Tiring your dog: Another way for your dog to be calmer is to tire him, because then at the moment of the fireworks he will fall asleep and it will be more difficult for him to hear the noise, but in case he does not fall asleep because he is tired, your dog will rest.

Prepare the house: You have to try to muffle the noise as much as possible, either by closing windows and lowering blinds, as well as drawing the curtains because of the light emitted by the fireworks. Another idea is to put on music or television to cover the noise of the fireworks.
And in case you have to attend somewhere, try not to take him with you if he gets scared quickly, as this will cause him more stress. It is better to leave him at home inside a room, especially without tying him to a leash and putting him his little bed and some toy that he can chew.

Tranquilizers: In case your dog gets very stressed you can go and ask the vet to give you a tranquilizer, for the time of the fireworks, especially make sure you go to the vet you trust to see that you can give him the tranquilizer.

Vaccination against “kennel cough”, a type of whooping cough, is recommended for puppies that come into contact with other dogs.
