The Danger of Spoiling a Dog: Canine Training from the Start<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n

\nToday, I want to dive into something I find super interesting: the risk of spoiling a dog.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Let\u2019s picture a dog like Rubio\u2014total eye candy, impressive, downright awesome. Tons of people fall head over heels for dogs like him, and it\u2019s no wonder why. But behind all that beauty and charm, there\u2019s something we\u2019ve got to keep straight: training is everything.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Getting a bit serious here, I think dogs like Rubio are one-of-a-kind. In my opinion\u2014and this is just my take\u2014most of the dogs I\u2019ve seen bite or heard about biting tend to be the little ones. You know, those \u201cspoiled\u201d pups you spot sometimes. But who\u2019s really at fault? The dogs? Nah, I\u2019d say it\u2019s us humans who\u2019ve messed things up.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

There comes a point when it hits you: if Rubio\u2019s spoiled\u2014if he\u2019s \u201cdolled up,\u201d as I like to call it\u2014that\u2019s not on him. It\u2019s on us. We\u2019ve handled him wrong, spoiled him rotten. And that comes with consequences.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Why Training from Puppyhood Matters<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

\nIt\u2019s crazy important to get some things straight right from the start. When a puppy lands at your place, there are key things you can\u2019t just brush off. Sometimes, certain behaviors crack us up. Take a Chihuahua hopping on the bed or pulling some mischief\u2014it\u2019s cute, right? <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

But now imagine that with a big dog, like a Cane Corso, a Doberman, or a Bordeaux Mastiff. As puppies, they might weigh 10 or 15 kilos and seem small and adorable. \u201cOh, how sweet, he\u2019s sleeping with me!\u201d And hey, if that\u2019s your vibe, no judgment here. The catch is, when that pup grows into a 50- or 60-kilo beast and still climbs into your bed, good luck kicking him out.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

If you don\u2019t set some ground rules early\u2014if you don\u2019t step up as the leader from day one\u2014it\u2019s going to be a whole lot tougher later. Picture telling a 50-kilo dog, \u201cGet off the bed now!\u201d It could turn into chaos, maybe even scare you if he\u2019s not properly trained. But if you\u2019ve got a clear plan from the jump and stick to it, it won\u2019t spiral out of control.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Training a Dog Is Like Raising a Kid<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

\nIt\u2019s kind of like raising kids. You\u2019re never 100% sure you\u2019re nailing it, never totally certain you\u2019ve got it all figured out\u2014it\u2019s all up for debate and personal take in life. But what you <\/span>do<\/span><\/span> need crystal clear is what you want down the road. With a Chihuahua, say, it\u2019s no biggie\u2014it starts at 3 kilos and tops out at 6. Spoiling it? Not a huge risk. But a Cane Corso? That\u2019s a different story. If you\u2019ve got little ones at home, what\u2019s the worry? A poorly trained dog might nip at them or stir up trouble.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Dog training and kid-raising run pretty parallel. It\u2019s about setting boundaries\u2014clear ones. A dog with boundaries is a happier dog because it knows what\u2019s okay and what\u2019s not. That cuts down on problems. Take me, for example\u2014I\u2019ve got two Cane Corsos at home. They hang out with the kids solo and double as the best alarm system I could ask for. Beyond any regular alarm, they\u2019re my peace of mind. They watch and protect like nobody\u2019s business.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Spoiled or Well-Trained?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

\nSo, would you say my dogs are spoiled or well-trained? I\u2019ll fess up\u2014mine are a little pampered, sure, but they\u2019re on the right track. It\u2019s all in my hands. I know exactly how far they can go and where the line is. They\u2019ve got freedom, but there\u2019s never been a growl from them\u2014not even when a kid yanks a toy away rough or sticks a hand in their food. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

They know their place, and they know ours.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
At the end of the day, it\u2019s simple: either you\u2019re in charge, or the dog is. No in-between. Give them love? Awesome\u2014but love doesn\u2019t mean letting them run the show. A well-trained dog doesn\u2019t love you any less for having rules; if anything, it\u2019s calmer and happier that way.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
